This project will include the construction of new selling pens and drafts on the eastern side of the yards to make way for additional receival/delivery yards on the western side of the yards (adjacent to the unloading/loading ramps).
Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for the Roma Saleyards said with new infrastructure set to reduce unloading and loading times, as well as cattle movement throughout the facility, this is an exciting time for the Roma Saleyards.
"The Saleyards has seen a lot of action over the last few months with works on the hardstand and car park, new entrance, and the United Petroleum truck stop – now we are going to see construction kick-off on the yards themselves," Cr Flynn said.
"It is great to see a highly regarded local business being awarded the contract and Council is very much looking forward to seeing the construction underway."
The earthworks are now underway in preparation for commencement of the construction works. A new workshop for internal use will be placed in a different location to make way for the yard improvements.
Roma Saleyards users are advised that no impacts are anticipated for the saleyard operations during the construction period.
The Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan has received $1.3 million from the State's 2017-19 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
