Roma Saleyards Multi-Purpose Facility one step closer - roofing complete

Last Friday, a key milestone to the Multi-Purpose Facility was the completion of the roof sheeting to the Interpretive Centre, Canteen and Kitchen, Multi-Purpose Room, Administration Building and all walkways and verandas. Another key milestone, completed two weeks ago, was the blockwork to the Stud Stock Selling Arena.

The completion of the structural steel and roofing for the Stud Stock Selling Arena will be the next milestone as well as the completion of wall cladding and internal sheeting which is set to be complete by 30 August (weather permitting).

Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for the Roma Saleyards said with the roofing now installed, it is clear to see how far the project has come along. Being such a huge project for Council, it is great to see the undertaking and delivery of a project this large to our region.

"The Roma Saleyards will continue to attract buyers, vendors and visitors from all over Australia and will remain the largest cattle selling centre in Australia with these major improvements coming to life," Cr Flynn said.

The multi-million dollar project will take place in 3 stages:

  • Stage 1 – Construction of the Multi-Purpose Facility which includes an Administration Centre, Amenities, Canteen and the Interpretive Centre is anticipated to be completed by December 2019 with fitout works to begin after construction works are completed.
  • Stage 2 – Demolition of existing buildings
  • Stage 3 – The construction of the Stud Stock Selling Arena which will seat 263 people and will provide state of the art audio visual facilities.

Funding for this project has been provided by the Australian Government's Building Better Regions Fund ($3,961,482), the Queensland Government's Building our Regions program ($3,698,983), Saleyards Reserves ($324,855) and Maranoa Regional Council.
