The meeting will include a report to be tabled by Deputy Mayor Jan Chambers, who is proposing that:
- the fee be removed from the 2016/17 Fees & Charges Schedule;
- refunds be provided to those who have paid in good faith; and
- a series of additional steps be undertaken over the next few months which will provide valuable input into future budget deliberations.
- Cr Chambers said following the feedback received so far, it is evident that the community is looking for certainty about this year’s arrangements and it is important that the decision on where to from here be brought forward.
“We have listened to all of the feedback from Roma Saleyards’ users so far and feel it is important a decision on the issue is made sooner rather than later,” Cr Chambers said.
“With there being no overall consensus amongst any of the user groups of the Saleyards and many different perspectives shared regarding the fee and other Saleyards’ matters, I would like to propose a way forward.
“Further, with the financial year almost reaching the halfway point, if amendments are required to our budget, I think that needs to occur as soon as possible. This Special Meeting will provide clarity on that.”
