Considering the positive impact on Roma and therefore the wider Maranoa community, Brett Pollock of Brett Pollock Constructions Pty Ltd said he is delighted that the tender for Stage 1 of the project was awarded to a local business.
"This project will involve a team of 15 local employees including sub-contractors over the construction period," Mr Pollock said.
"Additionally, all steel and materials are being sourced from locally owned businesses."
Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program is delivering terrific results for jobs and regional economies throughout Queensland.
"This includes in the Maranoa, with more than $1.3 million allocated from the program towards Stage 1 of the Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan, upgrades that will make a real difference to capacity and flow of cattle at this fantastic facility," Mr Hinchliffe said.
Work on the new workshop is underway, with the pouring of the slab having taken place in recent weeks. At this stage, the team anticipate the workshop will be complete by early June (weather permitting).
The construction of the new selling pens and drafts on the eastern side of the yards are set to commence once the workshop is completed. The new selling pens and drafts will make way for additional receival/delivery yards on the western side of the yards.
The total cost of the Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan – Stage 1 project is approximately $2.173 million.
The Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan – Stage 1 is a joint initiative of Maranoa Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
