Roma Saleyards Multi-Purpose Facility
Council is calling on the community to have their say on the proposed Roma Saleyards multi-purpose facility.
For years the Roma Saleyards has held the title of Australia’s largest cattle selling centre, and over the last five decades infrastructure has been upgraded to keep up with the ever growing cattle industry – with the most recent addition a three bay truck wash facility.
In its first year of operation, 1969, the Roma Saleyards saw a throughput of 56,251 cattle moved through the yards, however in more recent years the Roma Saleyards has seen over 400,000 head of cattle processed annually.
With these impressive numbers and the drive to remain the top cattle selling centre, Council is committed to breathing new life into the facility with the construction of a new multi-purpose facility.
The proposed upgrade includes the construction of:
- an administration building with user workspaces, buyer check-off room, all amenities, multi-purpose room, dining/function area with kitchen, serveries and bar;
- Interpretive centre;
- Bull selling arena;
- Decking and ramps;
- Landscaping and sewerage.
Council has applied for state and federal funding to support the implementation of this project.
