Each year, World Suicide Prevention Day is observed on 10th September. To mark this important event, South West Hospital and Health Service, Mental Health & AODS together with other local services and agencies are hosting a FREE community event, Family Fun Day at The Big Rig on Saturday, 10th September 2016, from 10am to 2pm.
Suicide affects many people in our community, with more than 2,500 people dying by suicide in Australia every year. For every death by suicide, an estimated 30 people attempt suicide, and it is believed that up to six people are directly affected by the tragedy, whether they are parents, siblings, friends, colleagues or bosses.
Collaboration between all levels of government, community, health sector organisations and businesses is imperative to create the changes needed to reduce the rate of suicide. Our event will focus on linking local service providers with the community and reinforcing the positive benefits of safe and open discussion about suicide prevention.
