$1.1 million Roma sewer main upgrade takes shape

Today (11 July 2016) saw a key milestone for the project, with the new deep gravity sewer main installation reaching Lovell Street (near Apex Park).

  • Overall, works include:
  • 1,240 metres of larger diameter sewer mains using the newest pipe material technologies
  • 19 new sewer manholes
  • Reconnecting properties, while also keeping the current sewer main live.

Councillor David Schefe, Portfolio Chair for Utilities said with the existing sewer main currently at physical capacity and exceeding life expectancy, it is essential for these services to be upgraded.

“A sewer modelling report was undertaken and found that for future growth of the area, it is absolutely vital that the sewer infrastructure be expanded and improved,” Cr Schefe said.

“The project is designed to limit impact to local residents, however some short-term disturbances such as road closures and traffic delays may occur while works are underway.”

Council thanks residents for their patience during the upgrade works.

The works commenced in April and are scheduled to be complete in September, weather permitting.

This project is funded by Maranoa Regional Council, partially through infrastructure charges.
