Emilee, a former St. John's School student who began her sporting career in Roma, excelled in junior sport and represented the Roma & District and South West in a number of sports.
The sporting superstar went on to represent Australia in touch football and Rugby 7s (where she was part of the team that won the 2015/16 World Series, as well as winning the World Rugby Women's 7s Player of the Year for the 2013/14 season).
Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Youth, Recreation and Sport said Council, the town of Roma and entire Maranoa have been cheering for the golden girl every step of her Olympic campaign.
"We have watched this talented young athlete go from strength to strength in her sporting achievements – and now to have another gold medallist from our home – we are incredibly proud," Cr Flynn said.
"With a number of outstanding athletes coming from this area, winning the gold at the Olympics is certainly one of the highest achievements that can be obtained.
"Already on our Wall of Fame at the Maranoa PCYC in Roma, we will certainly be planning a ceremony of some kind for her arrival back in town. Well done Emilee and congratulations to the whole Australian Women's Rugby 7s team!"
