Along with Council’s contribution of $425,000, the complex will be located at Bassett Park and will include eight netball courts, four team shelters, change rooms, amenities, lighting, clubhouse (with servery) and car parking.
Councillor Peter Flynn, Portfolio Chair for Youth, Recreation and Sport said the funding is a huge boost for netball throughout the region and beyond.
“This much-anticipated upgrade has been in the works for some time and was developed as a part of Council’s Bassett Park Master Plan in 2013. The overall plan is dependent on external funding, so it is exciting to see this particular project get underway,” Cr Flynn said.
“A high quality and modern facility for our youngsters to stay active, the complex is set to become a community asset hosting many activities as well as attracting events to the region.”
“Attracting the likes of state, regional and Masters Games competitions for netball to the Maranoa will not only support the region’s current netball players but will also encourage future players to get involved.”
The project will be the first in a series of planned upgrades and new developments at Bassett Park, enabling the facility to grow as the region’s number one sporting facility.
This project is funded by the State Government Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing ($850,000) and Maranoa Regional Council ($425,000).
