Council to replace iconic CBD bottle tree

The tree was removed from site by Council over the weekend and the salvaged trunk has subsequently been replanted on Council land opposite The Big Rig, in the hope that it will re-establish its root system.

Councillor Geoff McMullen, Portfolio Chair for Towns and Surrounds said bottle trees are an important part of the Maranoa’s identity.

“This bottle tree was one of many planted as a tribute to fallen soldiers from the area, who lost their lives in the First World War,” Cr McMullen said.

“In the coming months, Council will work to replace this tree and ensure our iconic memorial continues to be preserved.”
