Local Emergency Coordination Committee meetings take place across the Maranoa

Each LECC is made up of a core group of people, including emergency services and Council staff, within local communities who have the local knowledge and expertise of their local area. This is to ensure that disaster management and disaster operations within each local area are managed in line with the Maranoa Local Disaster Management Plan.

The LECC meeting held in Injune undertook Disaster Management Training, in Surat the committee carried out a risk analysis of Surat & Surrounds in preparation for a written Disaster Management Plan. In the meeting held for Wallumbilla and Yuleba areas the committee toured the Origin Reedy Creek Gas Facility to understand their specific disaster management arrangements with key members from Origin Energy and representatives from the District Disaster Management Group in attendance.

LECCs have been established in Mitchell, Injune, Surat and Wallumbilla/Yuleba and are chaired by Councillors.
